Having fun volunteering at Bernie’s Book Bank.

We believe that interaction with books should start from birth, and is key to developing early literacy skills. Not all babies and toddlers are fortunate enough to have books in their homes to chew on, look at, turn pages, etc. That’s why we love the mission of Bernie’s Book Bank — a non-profit organization that increases book ownership among at-risk children ages 0 – 12.

In December, we spent a day as a team volunteering at Bernie’s new warehouse in Lake Bluff, Illinois. We donated some of our books, but also sorted, stickered, and packaged books to get them ready for their new owners. Kids in Bernie’s program receive six books, twice a year, at either well-baby visits or at school. It takes a lot of donated books and volunteer hours to make this program work!

If you’re looking for somewhere to send your gently used children’s books, or have a few free hours on your hands, please consider donating books or time to Bernie’s Book Bank.
